Experiencing audio/voice issues in a Zoom call and need to troubleshoot them? Here’s how to start a test Zoom meeting for troubleshooting.
*Note – This will only work if the Zoom Workplace app is installed on your device.
Step 1: Follow this link: https://zoom.us/test
After clicking the link, the page should look like this:

Step 2: Click the blue “Join” button.
After clicking the blue “Join” button, a window will pop up near the top of your browser asking if you would like to open Zoom Meetings. Click the “Open Zoom Meetings” button to proceed.

Step 3: Follow the on-screen prompts
After clicking “Open Zoom Meetings”, and the test Zoom Meeting opens, this window should appear:

On the bottom left, it will first ask if you can see yourself, verifying that your camera is working. Click yes if applicable to move to the next step.
*If you don’t see yourself, before moving to the next troubleshooting steps, try performing basic troubleshooting steps, such as checking to see if your camera has a lens cover. If it does, make sure it is not covering the lens. If basic troubleshooting solves the issue, this could indicate further issues with the camera.
Next, the test Zoom Meeting will play a ringtone through your speakers. If you can hear a ringtone, press the “Yes” button to proceed to the next step.
*If you can’t hear the ringtone, check your volume levels before moving onto the next troubleshooting step, in case your sound is muted. If the device’s sound is not muted, this could indicate further issues with the speakers.
Finally, the test Zoom Meeting will test your microphone. Speak into the Microphone. If your voice is replayed and can be heard properly, this indicates that the microphone is working.
*If your voice cannot be heard, try changing the gain settings of your microphone in Windows. If you do not know how to do this, visit the following article for further information: https://support.highlandschools.org/knowledge-base/how-to-change-the-gain-settings-for-your-microphone-on-windows-11/. If this does not fix your issue, this could indicate further issues with your microphone.
Click next, the test Zoom Meeting will conclude and show the pass/fail status of each test. You can then either close the window, or wait for it to close itself. The test Zoom Meeting has now concluded.
